However, the goals of this light dog diet are the same: make sure the dog is fed and hydrated and can easily digest food. Still, depending on the cause, the vet will have the best advice for you. For weaker animals, the energy load should be high, so you should focus more on protein and calories.
If your dog has diarrhea, it’s very likely that he’s hungry and dehydrated, so you should avoid his unnecessary suffering. Start by offering small portions to see how you tolerate food.
The goal is not to eat everything you have lost or go hungry, but you should proceed with caution. Your diet should be composed of the following percentages:
Inside meat (or fish), choose the ones that contain the least fats such as chicken, rabbit, turkey or hake. It should offer raw meat, which is harder to digest once cooked. Boil the chicken with water and a little salt, without ever using vegetables such as onion or leek, as they are foods harmful to dogs. Remember that a sick dog will be weak and, as soon as it starts to feel better, it will need more food that, in some cases, will have to regulate to avoid getting sick. In this way, the digestive tract will work more easily and unwanted overloads will be avoided.
Diarrhoea usually lasts between 2 and 3 days and you’ll need to see an evolution, but remember that the intestinal flora needs to recover and takes time. To improve the intestinal flora, yogurt or kefir can also be added to the diet, always in small amounts.
