Exchange of Siberian husky hair
It is a breed of dog originating in the regions with the most radical climate on the planet: originally Siberia and later Alaska. It is a very ancient breed that evolved for decades in Siberia under the strict parameters of the Chukchi tribe to perfectly adapt to the environment in which it was bred.
- Temperatures in northeastern Siberia are very low and may fall below -50 degrees Celsius.
- In addition.
- The wind increases the extreme cold you feel.
- The Husky is perfectly equipped with a fur that protects you from both elements.
- Just like it does from rain.
However, in Siberia, it’s not just cold. During the heat wave, the thermometer can exceed 40 degrees Celsius. Husky is also suitable to support this. In Animal Expert we will inform you about the peculiarities of Husky’s hair and advise you on the best way to manage the hair exchange of the Siberian Husky.
The temperature variation from one season to another is so great in Siberia that, for this reason, the Siberian Husky changes hair twice a year, instead of the specific annual change of other dog breeds.
The first exchange takes place between spring and summer. The second during the period between autumn and winter. And between the two plants, hair loss from food shortages, vitamins or allergies is common. The veterinarian should monitor excessive hair loss and find the causes.
Husky has two very different layers of hair. The lower layer is dense, silky and warm. This is the part that protects the Siberian Husky the most from the cold. By exchanging summer hair, this layer may even disappear. For this reason, you often get the feeling that the Siberian husky varies the color of its fur.
The top layer of Husky’s hair is soft, shiny and thick, protecting it from wind, rain and snow. It is a hair that retains the warm air produced by the Husky’s body and creates a comfortable thermal insulation against the cold outside. Therefore, it is not surprising to see a Siberian husky sleeping outdoors on the snow and, in turn, snowing over them.
Siberia’s heatwave is extremely hot and humid, although it is brief. However, the nights are cold due to permafrost, the underground part of the Earth’s crust that is permanently frozen at these latitudes and which, in its upper area, in turn becomes a pond during the thaw during the summer.
The Siberian husky adapts perfectly to the climate. She has already lost much of the lower layer of her hair when she arrives in summer, allowing her to sleep in the sun at noon. The top of your coat protects you from the intense rays of the sun and keeps your body cool.
That’s why many people can enjoy the company of a Husky living in a warm climate.
We have already seen that the Siberian Husky adapts smoothly to all temperatures. However, her body continues to change hair twice a year. Therefore, we must brush our Husky daily if we want to preserve its beautiful shine from its dense hair.
You don’t have to spend much time doing it, five minutes and the right tools will be enough for that job. Nice care for the dog and also for us if we love our pet. Learn more about Siberian Husky’s hair care by entering our article.
A key instrument will be a metal scraper. With it we can brush the hair of our dog in the opposite direction to the growth of the hair and quickly remove the dead hair. We must do it carefully so as not to scratch the skin of our dog. Although it is easier to hurt the dog with a metal comb than with a scraper, the metal hair thickness of the scraper itself prevents it from scratching the dog’s skin.
Finally, we’ll need a long-bristle plastic brush to brush the Siberian Husky in the direction of hair growth, once we’ve removed the dead hairs with the badger. It is convenient for the bristles of the brush to end with protective beads.
The Siberian Husky is a healthy dog thanks to the excellent genetic heritage of the Chukchi tribe. However, the frequent hair loss of our Husky can mask some form of deficiency in vitamins, food or allergies. Therefore, it is advisable for our veterinarian to periodically check our dog.
An annual veterinary checkup, if the dog does not present symptoms of disease, a brief daily brushing and a little exercise will keep our Siberian Husky in shape. A loving and affectionate dog, excellent to live with children.
