Among the most striking Christmas tales is Santa Claus, a character who lives at the North Pole and receives letters from all the children of the world to finally decide whether these children have behaved well all year round and whether they deserve it or not.Gifts. But when did this tradition begin?
In Animal Expert we want to relive the legend a little and try to understand the meaning of the Christmas reindeer, we do not want to demystify anything, but we want to know these noble animals that work on December 24.Keep reading and find out, all about Santa’s reindeer.
- Santa Claus.
- Santa Claus or Santa Claus.
- All over the world.
- Are known by different names.
- But the story is always the same.
In the 4th century a child named Nicols de Bari was born in a city in Turkey, known from a young age for his kindness and generosity towards poor or less resourced children, considering that he was born into a very well-off family. At 19, he lost his parents and inherited a great fortune that he decided to give to those in need and followed the priesthood path with his uncle.
Nicols died on December 6, 345 and due to the proximity of Christmas, it was decided that this saint was the perfect image to distribute gifts and treats to children. He was appointed patron of Greece, Turkey and Russia.
The name Santa comes from the German name by which Saint Nikolaus is recognized. The tradition developed in Europe around the 12th century. But in 1823, an English writer, Clement Moore, wrote the famous poem “A Visit to St. Nicholas” in which he perfectly describes Santa Claus crossing the skies in a sled pulled by his nine reindeer to distribute the gifts on time.
But the United States did not fall behind, in 1931 he commissioned a famous brand of soft drinks that would make a caricature of this old man, depicted in a red suit, belt and black boots.
Today, the story centers on a Santa Who lives at the North Pole with his wife and a group of elves who make toys throughout the year. When the 24th day arrives at night, Santa puts all the toys in a bag and rides his sled to distribute the gifts on each Christmas tree.
To understand the meaning of the Christmas reindeer, we must continue to investigate these magical creatures that drag Santa’s sleigh, have magical powers, and fly. They were born thanks to the poem mentioned earlier by the writer Moore, who brought only eight of them to life: the four on the left are women (Cometa, Acrobat, Trono, Brioso) and the four on the right are men (Cupido, Lightning, Dancer, Playful).
In 1939, after Robert L.Mays’ short story “Christmas Story”, he brought to life a ninth reindeer named Rudolph (Rodolfo) who would be at the front of the sled and is white. But it is said that his story is closely linked to a Scandinavian legend where the god Don had an eight-legged white horse that led Santa with his assistant, Black Peter, to hand out gifts, the stories merged and the eight reindeer were born.It is also said that elves are responsible for caring for and feeding the reindeer. They divide the time between gift production and reindeer.
Although they are said to be magical creatures that fly, they are also magical but non-flying flesh-and-blood animals, they are of vital importance to the peoples of the Arctic, where they perform very different tasks, are part of Aboriginal communities and work together to keep them warm and in contact with the rest of the world.
They are part of the deer family, with a thick and very thick fur to cope with low temperatures, are migratory animals that live in herds and when the cold season begins they can migrate up to 5,000 km.in the Arctic region of North America, Russia, Norway and Sweden.
They are peaceful animals that feed in the wild of pastures, fungi, treetops, etc., basically are ruminants, such as cows or sheep, have an excellent smell, because when they live in areas where their food is buried intense layers of snow, they must have a way of finding it, smelling. They are prey and their main enemies are wolves, royal eagles, lynxes, bears and …human beings. I think this brief summary allows us to learn a little more about these beautiful animals that, almost unintentionally, are also protagonists at Christmas.
