The European hedgehog or Erinaceus europaeus lives in several European countries such as Italy, Spain, France, United Kingdom, Portugal, among others. It is also known only as sea urchin.
It usually measures between 20 and 30 centimeters and has a characteristic dark brown appearance. It lives in wooded areas and can live up to 10 years.
The dark eastern hedgehog or Erinaceus concolor looks a lot like the European hedgehog, although it is differentiated by a white spot on the chest. It is found in Eastern Europe and Western Asia.
Unlike the European hedgehog, the darkness of the east does not dig, preferring to make nests of grass.
The Balkan hedgehog or ericaneus romumanicus is found throughout Eastern Europe although its presence has spread to Russia, Ukraine or the Caucasus.
It differs from the two species above by its somewhat distinctive jaw, although on the outside it reminds us of the common European hedgehog with white breast.
The hedgehog of love or erinaceus amarensis inhabits Russia, Korea and China among other countries. It measures about 30 centimeters and its physical appearance is light colors but a little brown.
The white-bellied hedgehog or albiventris aelerix comes from sub-Saharan Africa and inhabits the savannah regions and the fields of populations.
You can see an all-white body where its dark head comes off. It has very short legs and surprising that it only has four fingers on the hind legs.
This hedgehog (algirus atelerix) is smaller than the previous ones, reaching about 20 centimeters in length.
It lives throughout North Africa, including Morocco and Algeria, although it currently remains in this wild coast along the Mediterranean coast that includes the region of Valencia or Catalonia. It has light colors and shows a fork in the spines of the crest.
The Somali hedgehog or atelerix sclateri is endemic to Somalia and has a white belly, while its parasites are usually brown or black.
South African hedgehog or atelerix frontalis is a brown hedgehog living in countries such as Botswana, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe, among others.
Although its black legs and brown hue can be highlighted, the South African hedgehog has a very characteristic white bangs on its forehead.
Next on this hedgehog list is the Egyptian hedgehog or ear hedgehog, also known as Hemiechinus auritus. Although it lives in Egypt, it can be found in many parts of Asia where it has spread.
He is distinguished by his long ears and short spines, which makes him prefer to flee rather than shrink as a defense. It’s really fast!
Although its name is very similar to that of the previous hedgehog, it can be noted that the Indian ear hedgehog or hemiechinus necklaceis looks very different.
It is relatively small and has dark colors. Out of curiosity we emphasize that this hedgehog performs a whole dance ritual to conquer the females for days.
The Gobi hedgehog or Mesechinus dauuricus is a small solitary hedgehog living in Russia and northern Mongolia. It measures from 15 to 20 centimeters and is protected in these countries.

The Indian hedgehog or paraechinus micripus is native to India and Pakistan and has a mask-shaped spot very similar to that of the raccoon. It lives in high mountain areas where there is a lot of water.
It measures about 15 centimeters and is quite fast but not as fast as the ear hedgehog. We also notice that this hedgehog has a very varied diet that includes frogs and frogs.
Brandt or Paraechinus hypomelas is about 25 centimeters long and has large ears and a dark body. It can be found in parts of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Yemen. In case of threat, it tends to snuggle with a ball although it also uses a “jump” attack to surprise its attackers.
